AWARD APPLICATION INFORMATION

CSZ Travel Grant

The purpose of this award is to provide funds to selected students or postdoctoral fellows in need to offset costs of travel to/from the Annual Meeting of the CSZ. The number and value of the awards is subject to available funds, therefore not all applications will be funded.

Eligibility

Students and postdoctoral fellows that are CSZ members are eligible to apply. In order to be considered, applicants must have submitted an abstract with the intent of presenting their research at the conference (either oral or poster presentation). Late applications will not be considered.

Application Process

Please submit a short (i.e. half page) request for funding in the form of a PDF document. The document should include your name, e-mail address, career stage, the name of your supervisor(s), lab location, and a brief statement justifying your need for financial support. This should be no more than 100 words. Please send application materials by March 14th, 2026 to the Local Organizing Committee at CSZ2026@CUNET.CARLETON.CA.

Decision

Awards will be distributed as evenly as possible across all labs attending the conference. The selection of recipients, and the number and value of awards will take into consideration the distance to be traveled to present at the Annual Meeting.

CSZ Caregiver Support Grant

Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Be a formal member of the CSZ

  • Be a natural caregiver for whom this role means additional personal costs and a need for financial assistance to attend the CSZ Annual Conference

  • Be the first author of an oral or poster presentation during the conference.

Please note that some parental or compassionate arrangements may include requirements that ensure that an individual cannot work (and who may associate participation in a professional Convention with “work”). Applicants are responsible for ensuring that this supplement does not violate their conditions of leave.

Value

The aid provided will be a maximum value of $500. The value of the aid will depend on the number of eligible applications received and the funds available. The sums granted may be used to reduce the associated (but not limited) costs to guarding during the conference, the travel expenses of another natural caregiver at the venue of the Congress, additional childcare costs for a child who is not present on the premises of the Congress, special family arrangements, etc.

Application Process

Please submit a brief cover letter in PDF format (approximately 1 page). This document should include:

  • A statement confirming your eligibility for the award.

  • Information about your career stage and current position.

  • An overview of your commitments and arrangements as a natural caregiver.

  • A brief statement on why your presence at the next CSZ meeting is important your your career development.

  • A budget detailing the total costs of attending the conference and clearly indicating the additional costs associated with caregiver expenses – this can be provided as a simple table. Include a list of other sources of funding available to assist you in participating in the annual CSZ Conference (confirmed or potential).
